This volume details illuminated manuscripts produced in England and Western Europe between 800 and 1200AD. Only manuscripts that that contain images of people, animals, buildings or items are included.

Elzbieta Temple lists 104 illuminated manuscripts. This list is reduced to 83 once volumes that only contain decorative initials are removed.

Ottonian 950-1050AD

The artistic successor to the Carolingian Renascence, the German, Swiss and Italian Ottonian manuscripts provide some of the best depictions of people and fashions in this period. Henry Mayr-Harting's two volume study draws on 70 Ottonian manuscripts and is the basis for this list.
