The problem with female leg coverings is that women in art are shown wearing long dresses which reach the ankle or even the floor, thereby leaving no clue as to what is underneath. The one exception can be found in one of the Psychomachias (British Library, MS additional 24199, fol. 12r.). In this image the vice Superbia is shown on horse back with her dress riding up her leg and around her lower leg is a wrap with ties at the ankle. [OWEN-CROCKER 2004: p.226]

Leg wraps

The problem with female leg coverings is that women in art are shown wearing long dresses which reach the ankle or even the floor, thereby leaving no clue as to what is underneath. The one exception can be found in one of the Psychomachias (British Library, MS additional 24199, fol. 12r.).
