::The illustration of the sword is from a watercolour by Edward Jones. In 1846 he illustrated the Claughton items held by the Society of Antiquities of London. An earlier watercolour was made by the amateur antiquarian John Weld and found as a loose leaf in his sketch book and bearing the date 1834. There are a number of differences between the two drawings including the shape of the crossbar. Weld shows it as being straight where as Jones shows it being slightly curved.
